About WUMF
WUMF is a non-commercial, educational radio station, broadcasting from the campus of the University of Maine at Farmington. WUMF first went on
the air in 1972 at 91.9 FM. In 1996, after a brief stint on 92.3 FM, WUMF moved to 100.5 FM where it remained until 2002, where it moved to
its current home at 100.1 FM. The station started broadcasting worldwide via the Internet in January of 2003. WUMF has recently been approved
for an upgrade to 100 watts on 91.5 FM, and is awaiting administration go-ahead.
WUMF is located in the Olsen Student Center, across from the South Dining Hall. WUMF occupies an office and adjacent studio, with a high level of exposure
to the student body on a daily basis. The station has as many as 70 on-air staff, per semester, along with a 13 member Executive Board, who oversee day to
day operations, and the over all direction of the station.
Aside from the radio aspect, WUMF acts as a service to the local community through Public Service Announcements, events promotion, DJ and sound reinforcement
services, and much more. Per the requirements of the FCC, WUMF is also required to broadcast weekly programming that pertains to the local community, and to
